Dat sfeervolle oude huis van mijn grootmoeder
De grootste attractie voor mij als kind,
wanneer ik een bezoek bracht aan mijn Oma, was het afspelen van een speeldoos waar op de bovenkant een elegante antieke Geisha pop op ragfijne exotische klanken langzaam in de ronde bewoog.
Mijn niet meer aflatende fascinatie voor het land van de rijzende zon is destijds ontstaan in dat sfeervolle oude huis van mijn grootmoeder.
In 1989 deed zich de mogelijkheid voor om een mooie ruimte te verkrijgen op een fraaie historische plek te Maastricht. Hier zou ik kunnen beginnen met een winkel/galerie in kunst-voorwerpen antiquiteiten en interieur-artikelen uit Japan, wiens culturele rijkdom en verfijning, in de loop der jaren steeds meer aan betekenis en zeggingskracht was gaan winnen.
Vanaf het prille begin tot nu, heb ik voor mijn verkoopcollectie steeds een wel overwogen en persoonlijke keuze gemaakt uit de eindeloze variatie aan Japans cultureel aanbod. Na inmiddels 33 jaar ervaring constateer ik dat een groeiend aantal mensen waardering voor Japanse Kunst en vormgeving krijgt. Met genoegen mag ik hen als enthousiaste klanten welkom heten in mijn winkel 'Japonais'.

My grandmother's cosy house
Being a child and visiting my granny’s house, the biggest treat for me was when grandma showed and played that antique music box on top of which an elegant Geisha doll was slowly dancing at the enticing and exotic sounds. My never ending fascination for that compound of islands of the rising sun has begun at that time in my grandmothers cosy house.
In 1989 I’ve got the opportunity to get a suitable sales capacity on a historic location in Maastricht. This was the place to start carefully my shop with art objects , antiquities and furniture from Japan, which cultural wealth has become more and more eloquent and significant to me.
From the early start till now I always monitored my collection to make a deliberate choice out of an almost infinite variety of Japanese cultural offer. After 33 years, it’s obvious to experience that an increasing number of people have begun to appreciate Japanese Art and Design. It’s a great pleasure to welcome these people, being enthusiastic customers in my shop 'Japonais'.
